Park Center

Description:

Park Center is a private, non-profit agency for adults in Middle Tennessee diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness. Park Center offers a wide range of housing, educational, employment, support, and social service programs that help people with mental illness achieve their full potential and gain respect as co-workers, neighbors, and friends. Our goal is to return our members to the community as healthy, working and independent adults. The Park Center Pre-Vocational Employment Program is based on the successful Clubhouse Model of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, which is a comprehensive and dynamic program of ‘recovery’ for people with severe and persistent mental illness. In contrast to traditional day-treatment models, clubhouse participants are called “members” (as opposed to “patients” or “clients”) and recovery focuses on their strengths and abilities, not their illness. The Clubhouse operates on the philosophy that working is rehabilitative. The work units offered at Park Center simulate a working environment by assigning members to perform tasks that support the operation and enhancement of the Center.
